Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve last game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players around the world. While participating in online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
