Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
