Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he loved gambling on various card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very competitive in these card games while playing his father. After graduating from secondary school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a bit and relocated to New York City to play some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He made some extra money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more sleep and concentrate more on the game.

The definite improvement in his abilities began when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would frequently wager against each other. Howard had access into some of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would sharpen his logical thinking techniques. He used these strategic concepts in the game of NL holdem.

He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master poker. She was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker arena ever. Howard Lederer headed to Vegas in 1993 and played money games for the following decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
