Howard Lederer lived in a family of five where he loved participating in different card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these card games while competing against his father. After graduating from secondary school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a bit and headed to New York to compete in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were difficult as he played many hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he possibly could boost his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more rest and focus attention even more on the game.

The real improvement in his abilities began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly wager against each other. He was able to access a number of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, he would hone his cunning thinking abilities. He used these strategic concepts in the game of NL hold’em.

Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a superb student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. He told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and play in the WSOP tournaments. She is one of the strongest female players the poker world ever. Howard relocated to Sin City in 1993 and played money games for the successive decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard made the decision to play more tournaments.
